An annual competition
open to young musicians (vocal and instrumental)
between ages 14 and 20 who either live in the
Bronx and/or attend school in the Bronx.
Named for late Bronx Congressman Jonathan Bingham, an
avocational violinist and composer, the BAE contest is
held each spring and offers to the winner a $500 award
and solo performance on a BAE subscription concert.
Runners-up also receive cash awards. |

A sophomore at Fieldston School in Riverdale, Ariel is concertmistress of the Juilliard Pre-College Symphony and was a first prizewinner in the Manhattan School of Music, Yonkers Philharmonic and David Froelich Competitions. A student of Shirley Givens, Ariel is BAE’s 2008 Bingham Award Winner. |

Emily Rodriguez is a student of Eva DeLa O at Lehman College, and attends Celia Cruz High School. She has performed with the Bronx Boroughwide Chorus and Lehman’s Community/College Chorus, and has also performed as soloist at the New York State School Music Association solo adjudications for three years. Emily is BAE’s Spingold Award Co-Winner. |

Christian Jose Carpio Ramos is a Celia Cruz High School graduate and currently studying medicine at Syracuse University. A former student at Harlem School of the Arts, Christian is BAE’s Spingold Award Co-Winner. He was a member of the Lehman College Band and All-City High School Band. |
